My name is Grady Pearson. I am a 47 yr old, big hearted, God-fearing blue belt and have been training since Jan. 2020. I was introduced to Jiu Jitsu by my best friend from my military days. At first, I would just give him hell about rolling around with other guys every day, but I finally gave in and started training. My daughter started training as well, with the intent of learning some self-defense before leaving home. Our first class taught me that I didn't know anything about fighting and that I was completely out of shape. We decided to sign up for a year so we could not quit. The fact that I've never done any kind of exercise, other than my construction work, made the first year very tough, but I survived. My daughter and I are now both blue belts. My son trained for a year but has taken a break to start his career and my wife started training in 2023. Jiu Jitsu has defiantly planted its roots into our family, keeping us humble and encouraging us to take better care of ourselves. The community of people, not just at our home gym, but around the globe as well, are amazing. Defiantly one of the best decisions I've made. The idea of the shorts started when I was looking for no gi gear. Everything I ordered was either cheap quality or I didn't like the fit, and most have velcro, which I do not like. Since gi pants are so comfortable, why not have shorts that are just as comfortable. I had my mother cut and hem a pair of my gi pants to shorts length. I started wearing these shorts to the gym and they started getting attention. After a few years and some encouragement from some friends, I started Pearson Combat. I personally love the shorts. They are the only no gi shorts I train in, and they are great for lounging around in as well. I have some ideas for casual shorts, t shirts and maybe some rash guards in the future, but one step at a time. I plan to continue my Jiu Jitsu journey and improve myself on and off the mats.
